Pay for the right searches, then answer the call
A homeowner with a broken air conditioner is not browsing for entertainment. They need help, often today. Paid search can put your HVAC company in front of that homeowner at the moment they ask Google or Bing for a repair. But buying clicks is the easy part. The hard part is choosing the right searches, sending people to a useful page, and making sure someone answers when they call.
I have managed pay-per-click campaigns since 1998. For a small HVAC contractor, I do not start with a giant list of keywords and a promise of “more traffic.” I start with your service area, your capacity, your margins, and the jobs you want. An AC repair call and a replacement estimate are different opportunities. They deserve different search terms, ad copy, pages, and ways to judge the result.
Build campaigns around real HVAC jobs
We can separate air conditioning repair, heating repair, system replacement, and other services that make sense for your business. We look at how people actually search in your market and keep the geography tight enough that your technicians can serve the leads. If you do not take calls from a town, we should not pay for that town. If you do not offer a service, it should not appear in the campaign.
Search terms need ongoing attention. A phrase that looks promising on a planning sheet can bring in DIY questions, job seekers, parts shoppers, or calls outside your territory. Negative keywords help keep those searches from spending your money. Match types, bids, location settings, and the hours ads run all matter. I prefer to see what a campaign is buying and make deliberate changes instead of letting automation make every decision in the dark.
Google Ads is usually the first channel to examine. Microsoft Ads can add useful reach, particularly when we can carry a proven structure over and manage it separately. The right split depends on your market and budget. We do not need every possible campaign on day one. We need a focused starting point and enough clean information to improve it.
The click needs somewhere useful to land
An ad for emergency AC repair should not dump a homeowner on a general homepage and make them hunt for the phone number. A focused HVAC landing page should confirm the service, explain where you work, answer the obvious questions, and make calling simple on a phone. A replacement page can make room for estimate expectations, equipment options, and trust signals. Both should load quickly and match what the ad promised.
We connect calls and forms to the campaigns that brought them in through LeadTABLE™ tracking. That gives us a better question than “How many clicks did we get?” We can ask which searches brought a real homeowner, what they needed, whether the lead was in your service area, and what happened next. A cheaper click is not a bargain if it never becomes a useful conversation.
Do not let a paid lead ring into silence
For many small shops, the owner is also estimating jobs or working in the field. That makes call handling part of the advertising plan. We can review business hours, missed calls, after-hours requests, and the handoff to your team. Gracie AI Receptionist can collect caller details and route conversations according to a workflow you approve. A lead that gets a quick response has a better chance of becoming an appointment than one sitting in a voicemail box.
What we review together
We look at search terms, location performance, calls, forms, and lead quality. We also listen for patterns: homeowners asking for a service you do not offer, calls from too far away, or replacement leads that need a different page. Those observations drive changes to keywords, ads, pages, and follow-up. The goal is not a report full of impressive percentages. It is more of the right calls at a cost your business can support.
If you already have an account, I can review its structure and history before recommending a rebuild. You should have visibility into your own advertising account and the work being done in it. If you are starting from scratch, we can build a practical foundation without pretending a small contractor has a national brand’s budget.
Tell me the jobs you want and the towns you can serve. We will work backward from the call you would be glad to answer. Talk with Bob about your HVAC pay-per-click plan.
